TRUE BLUE
Madonna set to rock Dublin for first time as big Aviva gig is given the green light
MADONNA will play her first ever concert in Dublin in July. The Queen of Pop is returning for only her second ever show in Ireland when she plays the capital in the summer. The Sunday World can reveal the controversial American superstar, who will perform at half-time in tonight's NFL Superbowl, is pencilled in to play the Aviva stadium on Saturday, July 28. Madonna was the first female performer to headline at Slane castle in August 2004, when she played to a sell-out crowd of 80,000 fans. This time around she will play to an audience of 50,000. There is also a strong possibility of a second show being added at the Aviva if demand is sufficient.
Support
Madonna will be at least the fifth act to headline a major open air show in Dublin this summer. Westlife will play two concerts at the 80,000 capacity Croke Park stadium on Friday June 22 and Saturday June 23, with the second show already sold out. The Red Hot Chilli Peppers will play the same venue on Tuesday June 26, with support by Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.
Croke Park is only licensed to play three concerts a year and was therefore ruled out for Madonna's show. Aslan will play the first ever concert at Shamrock Rovers' home ground of Tallaght stadium on Saturday June 30. The Stone Roses star at the Phoenix Park on Thursday July 5 - this show has already sold out. There is no Oxegen festival this year as it is taking a break until 2013 while Electric Picnic will go ahead as usual in September.
There is still no announcement on whether there will be a concert at Slane castle this year, but sources say that Coldplay are the favourites to headline the concert if it goes ahead. Madonna will be the fourth big act to play at the state-of-the-art Aviva, formerly known as Lansdowne Road. Michael Buble was first to perform there with two shows in September 2010. Neil Diamond played there last June, with support from Mary Byrne, while The Script rocked the venue last July. Madonna's return to Ireland has taken several months of negotiations.
The 53-year-old will also perform a selection of her hits at the half time interval of the American Super Bowl between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots in Indianapolis tonight. She follows in the footsteps of the likes of U2 and Bon Jovi to play at the most watched TV spectacle of the year in the U.S.
Madonna will later this week announce more details of her world tour, which includes major European dates during the Summer at stadia in the likes of Barcelona, Berlin, Paris, Milan and Moscow.
She recently had a spat with Elton John and his husband David Furnish. The handbags were out again after Elton was asked on Good Morning America if he had any advice for her in the build-up to her Super Bowl gig. "Make sure you lip-sync good," he quipped.
Award
It was the latest in a string of claims by him that she lip-syncs her live shows. This new row comes on the back of their infamous spat at the Golden Globe awards where they were both nominated for best original song. On the way in Elton said: "Madonna doesn't have a f*****g chance." She did win the award for her song Masterpiece, however. It was taken from the movie she directed, W.E., based on the 1930s' affair between King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson.
When Elton received an award later in the evening, he used his time on the stage to assassinate Madonna's Best Live Act.
"Madonna, best f***ing live act? F*** off! Since when has lip-syncing been live? That's me off her f***ing Christmas card list but do I give a toss? No."
In response, Madonna's management sent out a statement the following day claiming that the singer does not lip-sync. A management spokeswoman: "Elton remains on her Christmas card list whether he is nice or naughty." Elton's husband David Furnish took to Facebook after the ceremony to vent his anger at the decision. He wrote on the social networking site: "Madonna. Best song??? F*** off!!!
"Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in its narcissism. And her criticism of Gaga shows how desperate she really is." David later apologised for his rant.
Ironically, neither star has been nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars later this month. Next month Madonna is soon due to release her 12th studio album, MDNA, with a track called Give Me All Your Luvin' expected to be its first single.
Divorced
With over 300 million records sold she is the biggest selling female vocalist of all time. On her first and last visit to Ireland Madonna stayed here with her then husband Guy Ritchie and her children. The star has since divorced film director Ritchie and adopted two Malawi children, David (6) and Mercy (5) to add to the son she bore for Guy, Rocco (11) and a daughter, Lourdes (15), from a previous relationship.

BARRY’S GLEE
Magician's joy as he's set to star alongside legends Morgan and Woody in hit new movie
KEITH BARRY'S magic touch has payed off - he is set to land a screen role alongside acting legends Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Woody Harrelson. But the mind-bending illusionist isn't expecting any Oscars, as he reckons he will only get to deliver one line in heist movie Now You See Me.
Keith landed a plum role as consultant on the film, which is being made in New Orleans. It is about a group of FBI agents tracking a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their shows and then reward their audiences with the money.
Cameo
Speaking exclusively to the Sunday World during a break in filming and performing his 8 Deadly Sins tour, Keith revealed: "There is talk of me having a cameo role as well, but that could be as simple as saying something like 'welcome to the club'.
"I can't imagine it being anything except a one-liner, but it would be amazing to see myself in a movie this big.
"This movie is based on magicians, mentalists and hypnotists. The producers wanted to keep it as close to real life as possible, so that's why they wanted me as a consultant.
"The director, Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, Clash of the Titans), was aware of me and that's how I got the call."
Keith found himself thrown in at the deep end and he had to fit the film shoot around his own tour dates.
"The last few weeks I have been flying over and back to the States doing one and two days at a time. It's a hell of a drain," he said.
"Two weeks ago I flew to L.A. for just one day's work. I was in Donegal and after the show I jumped in the car, straight to Dublin airport, flew to L.A. and worked with Woody Harrelson for the day."
So far Keith has been working exclusively with Harrelson, teaching him the tricks of the trade. "Woody is a very hard worker, he's been brilliant to deal with. He's taking the role very seriously and he can now really hypnotise people."
Keith is due back on the set next month and as an added bonus he gets to work with one of his heroes. "I don't get star struck, but
I think when I meet Morgan Freeman... I've already met Michael Caine on the Paul O'Grady Show, but Morgan would be my favourite actor in the world. Just to be involved in a movie with those two, it's fantastic for me."
